APMG, the accrediting board for our PRINCE2 online courses have announced a change to the PRINCE2 exam format.
These changes have been implemented as result of a candidate survey which highlighted some issues with the timings of each exam.
The fully changed formats for each are as follows:
Overview of PRINCE2 Exam Format
PRINCE2 Practitioner Exam Format
- 8 questions
- 10 question items per question, each worth one mark, total 80 marks
- 2.5 hours (150 minutes) duration, no additional reading time
- 44+ marks to pass (55%)
- Open book exam (official PRINCE2 manual only)
- Trainer pass mark – 53 out of 80 (66%)
PRINCE2 Practitioner Re-Registration Exam Format
- 3 questions
- 10 question items per question, each worth one mark, total 30 marks
- 1 hour (60 minute) duration, no additional reading time
- 17+ marks to pass (55%)
- Open book exam (official PRINCE2 manual only)
- Trainer pass mark – 20 out of 30 (66%)
These changes have taken immediate effect as of January 1st 2013 and have completed replaced the ‘old’ format of the exams.
What this Means for Candidates
For the PRINCE2 Practitioner exam, the number of questions has been reduced from 9 to 8, with the number of marks per question reduced from 12 to 10. Meaning that the overall marks available have decreased from 108 to 80.
The time allocated for the exam has remained the same, which means effectively that there is more time per question as a result of the general feeling expressed in the candidate surveys.
Similarly, for the PRINCE2 re-registration exam the marks per question have been reduced from 12 to 10 (30 possible marks in total) but the time given remains the same.
