Thinking about switching careers in 2019? Now is a good time to think about it.
It is said that ‘fortune favours the brave’ and this is true for those who have taken such big leaps of faith in their lives. The ones who felt that their lives had stagnated, that they had out-grown their current situation and who had the belief that life has so much more to offer.
When deciding on making a change in your life, you have this wild, free spirit shouting into your ear from your one shoulder and logic reeling you back in from the other. During our lives, one of these entities will shout louder than the other and often this is our subconscious telling us what we think is right. However, to give in to the voice of the wild spirit one needs the confidence to take a step into the unknown.
You are the architect of your own life journey and this is no different when it comes to a career. We often find ourselves in dead-end jobs where the amount of effort out-weighs the benefits of the job. We continue slogging on with the hope that things may change one day; the reality is that they seldom do not. The reason for this is that the growth of a career within an established organisation is a slow process.
We have been sold the idea that if you carry on working hard in your current position that the rewards will eventually come your way… such as a promotion, or a salary increase. An organisation such as the one you are employed by has an objective to keep the efficiency of the company at a maximum. This is achieved by keeping those that are good at their jobs in the positions they are in!
You may be told that someday you may be promoted from office worker to team leader, or from team leader to Manager but this is a rare occurrence if you and the employees above you are carrying out your duties effectively. To add to this, the pool for workers in lower tiers are greater in number than the ones above, therefore a promotion can be seen as a lottery – the winner being one of your co-workers who receives the promotion.
What is the solution?
Let’s take a look at the alternative. Instead of slogging on in the hopes of future benefits, you take control of your own destiny. That destiny is controlled by choices you make in your life. If you make the right choices, you have the chance of living your life to the best of your ability and reaping the rewards that come with it. That choice could be as simple as changing your career path.
In order to make the right decision for a change in career. You will need some backup and this will come in the form of getting the right information to help you make a decision. This guide was aimed at helping those in this very position, to make things clearer so that your transition from dead-end-job to career hero will be a smooth one.
