Software Testing Career
In terms of software development, Software Testers play one of the most vital roles. Without Software Testers ensuring that the product is performing as it should – and has no flaws – the product would essentially be useless. If the product cannot be trusted to fulfil the functions it was designed to perform, it cannot be released to the public. As a Software Tester, you will be making sure that the product lives up to its design, performs as its intended to, and has no faults.
What type of person do I need to be?
The qualities that will help you to go far in a Software Tester role are creativity, curiosity, perseverance and attention to detail. These qualities will allow you to test the product in every feasible way that a user may try to work with it – and in ways that might not be obvious or expected. You should have the determination to put the product through its paces to the point that you have found every foreseeable fault that you can.
What Skills Do I Need As A Software Tester
In Software Testing, you will need to have the skills to write test automation scripts using programming languages and to assess and check the code of the product itself. The ability to work well on a team and communicate clearly is also important, as you will be working closely with the Software Developers. Good time management skills are also beneficial, as is some background in computer science or IT.
What Will I Be Doing As A Software Tester?
As a Software Tester, you may be part of the initial planning of the product to identify potential risks in the design, or you may join the project at a later stage when coding the product is already underway. Once the product is ready to be tested, you will submit it to various automated and manual tests, with the goal of not only exhausting all it’s intended functions but also to push it beyond it’s intended functions. This ensures that users cannot misuse the product and cause an unidentified error. Once your tests are complete, you will submit all recorded issues and bugs to the developers to rectify them. This continues until the product is bug-free and ready for public release.

Why do organisations need Software Testers?
Any organisation that creates applications or programs to be used either by companies or private users must submit these products to a series of quality assurance tests performed by a Software Tester. The goal of these tests is to ensure that the products will satisfy the requirements of the user and perform consistently under pressure. This guarantees that the final product is of the highest possible quality, and that would not be possible without the efforts of a Software Tester.
