To achieve the diploma, learners complete four official BCS certifications. These are the Business Analysis Foundation, the Business Analysis Practice Practitioner, the Modelling Business Processes Practitioner, and the Requirements Engineering Practitioner. After completing these modules, candidates are then eligible to sit the final oral examination, which brings together all areas of study into a single assessment.
If you have completed IREB’s Certified Professional for Requirements Engineering (CPRE) Foundation level, you are not required to sit the BCS Certificate in Requirements Engineering as part of your Business Analysis Diploma. This exemption allows you to use your IREB certification in place of that module, reducing the number of assessments you need to complete on your path to the diploma.
The qualification is assessed through four written examinations, one for each of the modules, followed by a final oral examination. The written exams test your understanding of core concepts, frameworks, and techniques in business analysis. The oral exam is a structured discussion lasting around fifty minutes, in which two BCS examiners ask you to demonstrate how you would apply what you have learned in real-world business situations. Passing all of these assessments is required to achieve the diploma, although students who qualify for the IREB exemption will only need to complete three written exams before moving on to the oral assessment.
The BCS oral exam is the final stage of the diploma. Conducted by two examiners, it is designed to assess how well you can integrate and apply the knowledge gained across the four modules. Rather than focusing purely on memorised theory, it takes the form of a professional discussion that explores your ability to think critically, communicate clearly, and demonstrate practical business analysis competence.
The time required to complete the diploma depends on the pace at which you study. Many students finish the programme within six to twelve months, although it can be completed faster or more slowly depending on personal circumstances. Each module usually takes a few weeks of study, and the oral exam can be scheduled once all modules are successfully completed.
The BCS International Diploma in Business Analysis does not expire. Once achieved, it remains a lifelong qualification, meaning you can continue to use it throughout your career as ongoing proof of your professional capability.
